Obama will learn about the school’s cutting edge curriculum, which integrates technology into the learning process, according to The White House.

He is also expected to make a speech about middle class jobs during the visit.

In an advisory, the White House said the president will fly into Charlotte and travel to Mooresville as part of his “Middle Class Jobs & Opportunity Tour.” The tour follows Obama’s State of the Union address, in which he said he believes the middle class ‘is the engine of economic growth.” The White House said:

To reignite that engine, there are three areas we need to invest in: 1) Jobs, 2) Skills and 3) Opportunity. We need to build on the progress we’ve made over the last four years, and that means investing in things that are already creating good-paying, stable jobs that can support a middle class family.

Mooresville Graded School District has received national attention in recent years for its use of technology and other innovations. In February, Superintendent Mark Edwards was named Superintendent of the Year by the National Association of School Administrators.

If you live in an apartment in Mooresville, NC you can be proud of your school system! Remember that during the traffic delays...
Similar to a wake board, it looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, but this new technology is based right here on the ground at Lake Norman.

"To see fishermen in the water who don't usually stop for anything but the fish, to stop and watch this thing for 10 or fifteen minutes let us know it was going to be a big crowd hit," said Flyboards owner Ernest Pruitt.

Pruitt is the first in the Charlotte area to offer this new jet-propelled technology as rentals. The flyboard is similar to a wake board. The Jetovator is almost a sit down version with handlebars for steering. Both are based in a rental operation at Queens Landing in Mooresville.

We found Youtube video shows a personally owned flyboard in action. And in the video you can see some of the jolting spills that come with it. Pruitt says his rentals aren't nearly as extreme. And how high you go, is up to the professional operating the jet ski that acts as the throttle.

"We keep you about 3-5 feet above the water line, and if you start to get too close to the jet-ski itself, we let you down into the water," Pruitt said.

He says his business is based first on extreme safety, then extreme fun. For more info check out www.lknflyboard.com or watch the video.
Are you having a BBQ party in the grill area at your apartments in Mooresville, NC? Or maybe you are heading to Lake Norma with friends to relax and celebrate the start of summer. Either way, here is a delicious and different burger recipe. Enjoy.

Cream Cheese Jalapeno Hamburgers

2 cups seeded and chopped jalapeno pepper
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
2 pounds ground beef
8 hamburger buns, split

Directions

Preheat a grill for medium heat. When hot, lightly oil the grate. In a medium bowl, stir together the jalapenos and cream cheese.

Divide the ground beef into 16 portions and pat out each one to 1/4 inch thickness. Spoon some of the cream cheese mixture onto the center of 8 of the patties. Top with the remaining patties, pressing the edges together to seal.

Grill for about 10 minutes per side, or until well done, taking care not to press down on the burgers as they cook. This will make the cheese ooze out. Serve on buns with your favorite toppings.

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 skinless, boneless chicken breast half
2 tablespoons minced green onion
2 tablespoons minced red bell pepper
1/3 cup frozen corn kernels
1/4 cup black beans, rinsed and drained
2 tablespoons frozen chopped spinach,
thawed and drained
2 tablespoons diced jalapeno peppers
1/2 tablespoon minced fresh parsley
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/3 teaspoon salt
1 pinch ground cayenne pepper
3/4 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
5 (6 inch) flour tortillas
1 quart oil for deep frying

DIRECTIONS:
Rub 1 tablespoon vegetable oil over chicken breast. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook chicken approximately 5 minutes per side, until meat is no longer pink and juices run clear. Remove from heat and set aside.

Heat remaining 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in green onion and red pepper. Cook and stir 5 minutes, until tender.

Dice chicken and mix into the pan with onion and red pepper. Mix in corn, black beans, spinach, jalapeno peppers, parsley, cumin, chili powder, salt and cayenne pepper. Cook and stir 5 minutes, until well blended and tender. Remove from heat and stir in Monterey Jack cheese so that it melts. Wrap tortillas with a clean, lightly moist cloth. Microwave on high approximately 1 minute, or until hot and pliable.

Spoon even amounts of the mixture into each tortilla. Fold ends of tortillas, then roll tightly around mixture. Secure with toothpicks. Arrange in a medium dish, cover with plastic, and place in the freezer. Freeze at least 4 hours.

In a large, deep skillet, heat oil for deep frying to 375 F. Deep fry frozen, stuffed tortillas 10 minutes each, or until dark golden brown. Drain on paper towels before serving.
Many people question whether it is better to rent or buy a home when they are considering moving.

Well, the answer is not universal. Homeownership is a big responsibility and a big commitment. Whether or not you should buy or rent a home depends on your financial stability and several other factors.

First, are you financially able to buy a home? Is your income and credit good enough to be approved for a mortgage? Check your credit report and see if there are any issues you need to take care of. The better your credit, the better the interest rate you qualify for will be, and that can save you thousands of dollars over the life of the loan. If your credit needs some work, it might be a good idea to consider renting and spend a couple years working to improve your credit rating.

In today's real estate market, before buying a home it's important to consider how long you will remain in the area and the home. Sometimes a quick sell for a job transfer or new opportunity isn't that easy to accomplish. If you're unsure how long you'll be living in the area, it's best to rent and not incur the costs associated with homeownership.

Buying a home means additional responsibilities.

Almost always there are maintenance requirements with homeownership. If you're not prepared or not interested in cutting the grass, keeping up with landscaping or home repairs and you can't afford to live in a community where those things are taken care of for you, then buying a home might not be the right decision for you.

There are benefits to homeownership as well.

Usually, the value of the home will increase over time, which means if you ever decide to sell, you should be able to get more than you paid for it. However, that's not always the case.

Owning a home also has a tax benefit. Homeowners can claim their mortgage interest on their income taxes, although with today’s low interest rates, this is less valuable than it was in years past.

Finances aside, the decision on whether or not to rent or buy a home typically ends up being a personal one. If you are financially stable, confident in your employment status and location, and ready for the added responsibility of homeownership, then buying a house might be right for you. If you're not planning on staying in the area and not interested in maintaining a home, then renting is probably a better option.

While owning a home can increase your net worth, there are potential downsides as well -- additional labor, hassle and cost, to name a few. In many cases, renting an apartment in Mooresville, NC makes sense.

How can you know which is best? Here's what you need to consider:

The minuses of homeownership: Owning a home is a huge time commitment. When you rent, maintenance is someone else's problem and repairs are solved with a phone call. When you own a home, you take on the rolls of maintenance and gardener. When something breaks, you need to fix it.

Homeownership also limits flexibility. When you buy, you should plan to keep the house at least five years, because transaction costs -- agent commissions and other sales expenses -- are high. Sell too soon and you won't recoup those costs.

The pluses: One of the joys of homeownership is investing time to make it yours and make it worth more. What you can do to customize a home you own is limited only by your imagination, budget and local zoning restrictions.

The bottom line: If you want to stay mobile, if you don't enjoy home improvement projects, rent. If you're staying put and watch a lot of HGTV, buy.

Money
The minuses: If you rent, you'll pay the first month's rent, a security deposit, and maybe a pet deposit. Buying means a down payment, closing costs, and other major expenses, not to mention the continuous maintenance and repair expenses of owning a home.

In 2010 the average annual homeowners’ insurance premium was $909. Property taxes vary widely depending on where you live, but run from hundreds a year to thousands.

The bottom line: If you don't have the money and/or credit score necessary to buy a home, the question is moot. But if you can afford to own a home in a desirable area with an expanding population, you'll probably be rewarded financially.

One way to run the numbers is to use buy vs. rent calculators. But, while those are certainly helpful, the answer you get from a calculator will depend on the information you provide -- some of which you can't possibly know.

For example, among other variables, most calculators will ask how much the house you're buying will appreciate annually, as well as how much equivalent rent will increase over time. These are questions you cannot answer.

Buying? Don't get in over your head, keep these thoughts in mind:

To lower the risk of homeownership, buy only what you need, not the most expensive house you qualify for. The average house in 1950 was less than 1,000 square feet. Today it's more than twice that. Remember that whatever you buy, you're going to have to furnish, heat, cool, insure, clean and maintain it.

If you have bad credit and only qualify for a high-interest mortgage, it will cost you tens of thousands of extra dollars over the life of your loan.

The more you put down, the less you borrow and the less risk you take.

Finally, if you decide it's time to buy, hope for appreciation, but don't count on it. However, if the community you're living in has both expanding employment opportunities and population, prices are likely to rise over time.

Some of that stuff you just can’t get rid of, most are prized possessions. However, sometimes, you may be looking for extra space. If you decorate smart, you can fit more people and more “stuff” into your apartment home.

While you are shopping, going to yard sales or flea markets, consider these furniture space savers:

Antique trunks serve two great purposes. They are all the rage in interior design right now. They also store lots of stuff like extra blankets, keepsakes, videos, magazines, whatever you want to store, while it doubles as a table.

If you have a coffee table, buffet table, side table or bench in your apartment that doesn’t offer storage, swap it out for one that does. They can provide extra seating and surface space all while storing more stuff.

No matter what your budget is, you can find a wall shelf unit to hold books and keepsakes that is in your price range. This adds space and beauty.

If you have regular over-night guests, sleeper sofas are helpful when you want options. These give you seating, sleeping and space!
Have you found the community that truly feels like home to you?

If you have, congratulations! The following might be just a few of the reasons why you feel that way.

Consider what might convince you to stay in your apartment. These details might make you want to stick around in the space you’ve found!

Convenient location
In real estate, location is king. If your current apartment is located near work or school and offers easy access to highways and many of your favorite haunts, you know just how true that old adage is. A convenient location can make an apartment home feel like a real treasure.

Great neighborhood
The qualities of a neighborhood can also be enough to make you stay in an apartment, long-term. Consider walkability, diversity and the “cool factor.” Do you enjoy the character of your current neighborhood? Would you miss its unique quirks or cultural offerings?

Amazing amenities
Apartment amenities are another point of persuasion. Some apartment communities offer a wide variety of amenities like a pool, outdoor space for play or barbeques, dog runs, a gym or concierge, and laundry services. Take a moment to think about the apartment amenities that make your life easier. When all other factors in an apartment search are equal, amenities can really tip the scale toward “love.”

The people
Good relationships with your neighbors can also factor strongly in a decision to stay in an apartment. Many apartments offer residents a real sense of community. If you enjoy knowing your neighbors and find yourself in an environment where folks are friendly and fun, you may have all the evidence you need to stay put.

Consider your relationship with property managers and staff, as well. Personable, attentive staff who make themselves available to their residents and respond quickly to maintenance issues or other needs are a true asset. If you feel your apartment community staff really takes care of you, consider that a good reason to stay in your current place.

Financial factors
These are just some of the reasons that might convince you to stay in an apartment. There are financial reasons, too. If you enjoy a reasonable rent rate, that can be a very compelling reason to stay put.

And don’t forget that even a short, in-town move comes at a cost. Even if you do everything yourself, moving will still be an expense — on top of all the start-up expenses you’re responsible for to secure a new lease and set up utilities at a new place.

Sure, maybe you’ve daydreamed about moving? We all get an itch to try something new every once in a while, but moving isn’t necessarily something to do on a whim. Consider the reasons above, and you may decide you want to stay put right where you are!

If you’re thinking about buying a home, one of the first things you should consider is how long you’re going to stay in the area. If you’re pretty sure that you’re going to be moving out of Mooresville within five years, you’re better off renting.

Why is that? There are several reasons.

First, the first five years of the mortgage are the worst years for building equity. The vast majority of each of your payments during the early years of your mortgage is going to go straight towards interest. On a thirty year mortgage, you build approximately 5% of your home’s value in equity during the first five years of the mortgage.

Second, much of that small amount that you do build in equity will be eaten by realtors when you sell. You can try the “for sale by owner” route to try to recoup some of that value, but there are challenges and expenses involved with going that route as well.

Third, what equity isn’t devoured by the realtors will be devoured by the bank. Closing costs are not your friend. They can add up to a noteworthy portion of your mortgage, particularly when you’re really only concerned about the small amount of equity you’d build during that time.

Finally, the housing market isn’t the giant money rocket that it was seven or eight years ago. At best, home prices are stable. In many areas, they’re still drifting downward. You’re not going to make a mint by buying a house, waiting a year, and then flipping it. If you’re reading any personal finance advice that suggests doing so, check when that advice was written. I’m willing to bet it was in 2008 or before.

If you’re thinking about buying a home, one of the first things you should consider is how long you’re going to stay in the area. If you’re pretty sure that you’re going to be moving elsewhere within five years, you’re better off renting.
