How far will the love of a friend lead you? How wide can that impact be? Nellie Buehler, a loving teacher at the Brawley Middle School in Mooresville said her last good bye in July of 2010 as she fought hard in the battle of brain cancer. In her last days here, since she could no longer teach, Nellie volunteered at The Serenity House. The Serenity House is a nonprofit end-of-life care home in Mooresville. Assistant principle and close friend of Nellie, Natalie Kelly, has been helping out at the Serenity House by raising money through running events.
Kelly spoke at Nellie’s memorial service and made known that she would be running every month and soliciting for donations to The Serenity House.
“I’m participating in a running race each month, and then I solicit for donations. … Four people a month, $25 each. So by the end of the year I’ll have $1,200 donated directly to the Serenity House.”
Less than four months after the service Kelly found that she had received a tremendous amount of help. With grace she had surpassed her goal and the movement of the Nellie Rocks 5k is growing even stronger.
