Car shows are pretty fun events to attend. Whether you’re an aficionado of older models or new models, anyone who has a desire to check out automobiles of all shapes and sizes should head out to a car show. In some cases you can see model’s from past decades, which you would probably only find in history books, or some Hollywood blockbusters.

To attend a show where popular models from next year will be displayed is always pretty fun, as you get a sneak peek behind the curtain. Either way, if  the sound of an engine revving gets you pumped up then its definitely best to attend a car show.

For Abberly Green car enthusiasts, on the first Saturday of the month until October, Mooresville hosts the Mooresville Cruise-In Classic Car Show. According to the Moorseville website, car enthusiasts will bring out their classic automobiles for the one day show to display in downtown Moorseville. The event is free of charge to attend, though event organizers ask that people contribute a canned good or cash donation if possible, as these proceeds are given to the local Moorseville/ Lake Norman Mission.

As explained on the event’s’ website, only vehicles from 1979 and before can be displayed and includes a selection of “Rat Rods, Trucks, Classics, American Muscles”. Head here and here for more information.

This New Year’s Eve, make a resolution to lighten our carbon footprint. Everyone at Avery Green is encouraged to take the first step by RECYCLING. It’s the easiest way to practicegreen living in your apartment complex without a major change in your already busy daily routine.

It’s easy to recycle cardboard boxes, batteries, and aluminum cans, but have you ever wondered how to ecologically get rid of more pricy items like mattresses, computers, or rubber tires? Most of the time you can make a charitable donation to a thrift store or local organization like Red Cross. However, stores like Best Buy offer a percentage of credits or cash back for trading in old electronics, sometimes even through the mail.

Heavy and hazardous materials require a little more work on your part to dispose of safely, but it makes a world of difference to the environment. There are special locations other than landfills that rubber, aerosol, steel, and bricks can go. Contacting services like Liberty Tire, or the Waste Management facility in your area can give you directions on how to drop of or have recycled items picked up from your apartment.

Decorating your apartment for a Halloween Party does not have to be a scary occasion.  It’s actually quite simple. you already got the theme; it’s Halloween.  You should consider whether your party is for adults, teens or small children.  That is where the big difference will come in.

Remember that you can’t go wrong with pumpkins and orange.  Add a few scary elements and a Gothic touch and you just successfully decorated for Halloween  Party in your apartment.  Don’t forget to place a goblin or skeleton on your door.  Oh yeah, and one more thing… Boo!

If you do the numbers you’ll see that we sleep close to one/third of our lives.  Well 7 hours a day for 75 years you can round up to nearly 22 years in the bed having dream time.  Though I’ve tried we really can’t avoid sleeping everyday.  We all need our rest.  Since we use so much time sleeping it is a good thing to make sure that our slumber is as beneficial as possible.  Below are four ways to rest better

2.  Make sure that you have a firm mattress.  When your mattress is to hard you’ll find yourself restless during the night.  However, if your mattress sinks to much then it may allow your spine to move to deeply into a curve.   Find a balance between a firm and soft mattress.  Investing a little more on a better mattress is a worth it because how you sleep impacts your performance while you are awake.1.  Make sure the space in your room is  neat and in some sort of order.  The area around you has an great influence on your thoughts life and on your dreams.  So if you have cluttered space then you may have a feeling of anxiety or unfinished business causing you to have bad dreams or sleepless nights.

3.  Sleep on your sides or even your back.  When you sleep on your belly it lets your lower back sink and could cause problems standing up straight.  Line up your hips  so that they are on top of each other.   On a firm balance bed you have the support and posture to get a great nights rest.

4.  Place a small or mid-sized pillow in between your legs to reduce pressure.  A pillow between the legs also guards the curve in your spine and helps sleeping posture for better dreams and rest while asleep.   You can also use a rolled up towel to support your neck or chin if the pillow between your legs doesn’t support you enough.

Thank you to all who attended our Community Watch Meeting!  In order to start a Community Watch Program here at Abberly Green, we need volunteer block captains for each building.  If you are interested, please call the Abberly Green office at 704.799.7417.  For anyone who could not make it to the meeting, here are some of the tips that Captain Davis from the Mooresville Police department suggested:

 Items of value should NEVER be left in your vehicle. 

Never leave your vehicle unlocked. 

If you have one, use your alarm system.   

Be aware of your surroundings at all times, especially when walking between your vehicle and your apartment.

Please report any suspicious activity to the police and management office immediately.       

Make certain that your renter’s insurance and your auto insurance are current.

Growing-up in New York, I’ve always loved St. Patrick’s Day. There were always huge parades and lots of great food everywhere. It seems like the party would last for days.

There’s a great way to celebrate in Charlotte this weekend. The Annual Charlotte Goes Green Saint Patrick’s Day festival will be this Saturday, March 13, 2010 starting at 10:00am. The festival will be on Tryon Street in Uptown Charlotte and will last for eight hours.

There will be music, tons of food, Irish crafts, beer and vendors. Sounds like a ton of fun!

The parade will start at 11:00am. It’s expected to be the largest year of this event’s 14 year history.
