Accessorize your space with mirrors, plants, vertical pieces and lamps. Also, be sure to keep your eyes open at flea markets and garage sales for interesting items with character. If you keep the color, texture, and feel consistent in the items you buy, they're sure to look great in a room together. Plants are a simple and inexpensive way to enhance any room. They give your new home a splash of color and life.

Decorating Ideas for Your New Apartment

One concern when moving into a new apartment is decorating your new home, or to be more exact, how to decorate your empty corners. If you have a beautiful apartment with empty corners, you need to decorate them; empty spaces dominate the look of your decor.

The first way to decorate empty corners is with plants. Plants that have beautiful colored flowers, or that are vibrant and lush are soothing to your eyes.

Another option is to caddy-corner a fish tank. But you have to keep it clean, a dirty tank will detract from your décor more than an empty corner.

If you're artistic or know someone who is, an original piece of art hanging in the corner, accented with a floor lamp looks great. Light and art will accentuate the empty corner and make it more eye-catching.

Perhaps a small corner book shelf, or a random table with a decorative items, vase of flowers, some family photos, or something else that is warm and inviting. It's not always about stuffing something in the corner of your apartment home, but rather, an intelligent and welcoming choice that works with your color scheme and personality will do wonders in making your new space feel like home.

Have you put a lot of thought into the colors of your apartment? Having bright colors around your apartment tend to lift your spirits and reduce stress. Decorating with color could brighten up your mood.

I read something earlier this week about a guy who decorated his apartment in all orange and turquoise. I thought, this is an unique mixture of colors for an apartment. But, then I began to think about it and look at the colors in me apartment. The sheets in my bedroom are a light mint green, it reminds me of the dew in the dawn of morning. I found out that bright colors can really brighten your attitude and when I wake up it’s evident.

You may not need even have to rearrange any of your furniture. Just take a look at the sheets in your bedroom, the curtains in the living room and even the pillows on the couch. When you take in the colors what do you feel. Brighter colors ad darker colors both play a big part on your attitude. The bright will keep your mind thinking about positive images while the darker, more negative images.

Put a little more thought into the colors in your apartment. Is it a positive or negative apartment livingexperience? Its the simple things that make a big difference.

How To Create Extra Seating

Have you ever hosted a party at your apartment and ended up not having enough seating? It’s happened to the best of us!

I’m going to share a Do It Yourself for floor cushions; with these you’ll never run out of space for guests! The best news is these cushions aren’t just any cushions, they’re fold, stitch & stuff floor cushions and they’ll only take about an hour and a half to complete.

Tools:
* 1 yard of fabric
* 2 inexpensive, standard sized bed pillows
* scissors
* ruler or measuring tape
* pencil
* pins
* 20 inches of Velcro for each pillow
* thread
* sewing machine
instructions:
1. Fold 1 yard of 54″ fabric in half, lengthwise 2. Measure and cut the folded fabric so you have a doubled piece measuring 41″ x 28 1/2″. A standard bed pillow measures 20 x 26 inches and they will be placed side by side inside the cushion cover.
3. With the edges that measure 41″ long, fold each one over 1″ and then another 1″. Pin, press and stitch in place. This forms finished back edges where the Velcro will be centered, pinned and stitched later.
4. Pin and stitch the remaining sides together, leaving a 20″ opening in the center of the ‘hemmed’ side (the side you just folded and stitched). Be sure to reinforce the stitching (backtack) on both sides of the opening so the stitches don’t rip out when you stuff the cushion cover.
5. Now, adjust each corner so that you have a triangular point with the stitched seam right on top and in the center of the point. Pin and stitch across the point two inches from the end of the point. This line of stitching is what forms the mock boxing.
6. Snip off the extra fabric at the corners and turn the cushion right side out.
7. Pin and stitch the top and bottom pieces of the Velcro on the finished edges you prepared in Step 3. Make sure they are placed on inside of the opening.
8. To connect the two bed pillows for your cushion filling, cut along one long seam of each pillow, opeining the side of the pillow form.
9. Next, measure and cut an equal number of 1″ x 4″ fringe on the cut edges of each pillow.
10. Tie the fringe pieces from both pillow tops together and repeat for the pillow bottoms.
11. Now you’re ready to place your new, floor sized pillow insert into the cover.
12. It is perfectly acceptable to fill out each corner with extra stuffing, upholsterers do this all the time.
13. Close the Velcro, get situated, and turn on the tube.

-The pillows don’t necessarily have to be tied together but it will help keep the stuffing even.

Real Simple.com has an article where they refer to 40 Decorating Rips for Your Living Room. We so one of the first tips and thought that it would be a creative idea to share with you, our residents.

Do you enjoy reading? Well, whether you do or not, more than likely you have books in your apartment that you may have never even thought to use as apartment decor. You can stack some of those books that you haven’t used in ages and make a small end table out of them. Just stack your books nice and neat starting with the largest and preferably the thickest book at the bottom. Then make each book that you stack smaller in size for a nice, creative look. You end up with a nice to look at stack of books that can also be used as an end table.
