The 3B Music Festival is an annual event at Fiddlers' Grove in Union Grove, North Carolina. Local musicians, artisans, and vendors come together to enjoy bluegrass, blues, and barbecue. It not only keeps North Carolina's past alive, but also directly benefits American Renaissance School. If you live in an apartment in Mooresville, NC enjoy a different kind of festival this weekend.
The roots of bluegrass and old time traditions run deep at Fiddlers Grove. Ninety years ago, VanHoy held his first fiddler's convention in Union Grove in 1924. The gathering would eventually become the Ole Time Fiddler’s & Bluegrass Festival under Harper Van Hoy and remains the oldest continuous-run festival of its type in North America.
The fourth generation at Fiddler's Grove -- VanHoy's great-grandchildren -- have stepped up and committed to bringing the festival and the traditions there back from the brink of extinction.
"Our focus now is really passing that heritage on," said VanHoy's great-granddaughter, Jessica Duncan. "We're bringing people together in an old-fashioned way and remembering the traditions."
Nine decades later, Duncan has started a new tradition at Fiddler's Grove, a festival to raise funds for American Renaissance School. It's a circle of family, music, fellowship and giving back that she said is at the heart of why Fiddler's Grove can not only survive, but also thrive.
This is the 4th year of the 3B Music Festival -- Blues, Bluegrass & BBQ -- and it draws talent from around the region for a day of music, food and family activities that has grown every year, Duncan said. This year's line-up includes Lacey Green, Sons of the South, Mel Jones and Rockie Lynne, among other performers.
Rockie Lynne has appeared nationally on "Good Morning America," Fox News Network's "Fox And Friends", ABC News and has made 14 appearances on The Grand Ole Opry. He is the creator and host of the popular syndicated radio program, "Uprising," which features new music from established songwriters as well as under exposed talent which the show's tagline aptly describes as "the greatest music you have yet to hear."
