Local festivals add spice to the fall season. Fried turkey legs, funnel cakes, and a fried snicker bar make great memories of perfect fall nights at the fair. Carolina Renaissance Festival
Sept. 30-Nov. 19
This annual festival is full of attractions, entertainment, games and rides, live performances, jousting, authentic food such as turkey legs and fish and chips, shopping, and costumed cast members.

Hours: Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-5pm.
This free uptown street festival spotlights Latin American culture in Charlotte with food, music, folkloric dances, and more. Location/Cost: Levine Museum of the New South, 200 E. 7th St. Free.
UNC Charlotte International Festival
Experience the sights, sounds, dances, food and cultures of the world.
Location/Cost: Barnhardt Student Activity Center, 9201 University City Blvd. Free.
Enjoy a weekend of hot air balloon events include two balloon launches a day where 50 balloons take flight, plus tethered balloon rides and a walk-in balloon. There are several non-balloon activities, including beer and wine tastings, live music and artist booths, plus a Kids' Zone filled with inflatables, a climbing wall and a bungee jump. There are also magicians on hand to keep the little ones entertained.

Day of the Dead/Dia de Muertos Festival
This free family festival celebrates the traditional Mexican holiday with altars, music and dance performances, sugar skull workshops, arts and crafts, and more.
