The Save Our Lake Organization (SOLO) of Lake Norman has been sweeping up lots of the lake’s trash since 2004. If you live in an apartment in Mooresville, NC and you want our lake to be clean. Here is your opportunity to help.
So far, SOLO has removed more than 10 tons of litter, debris and junk from the shoreline and islands in eight years.
On Saturday, Oct. 6, the North Carolina Big Sweep waterway cleanup will take to the state’s inland and coastal shores. The Lake Norman initiative is sponsored by SOLO. Save the date!
Volunteers are needed for the 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Big Sweep along Lake Norman. It will launch from several locations, including the Pinnacle boat launch and Stutts Marina.
From the starting points, volunteers will be sent to various shorelines and islands, with boat crews ferrying the volunteers.
Divers from Scuba Adventures will help to pull trash from the lake bed, and SOLO encourages other divers to participate, too. This year, the divers will concentrate on the lake bed beneath docks at Queens Landing.
Keeping Lake Norman clean should be our number one priority. It is not only our recreation but our drinking water.
The Catawba River, which feeds into Lake Norman, has been listed as one of the nation’s endangered rivers for several years.
For Big Sweep, not only are volunteers needed to pick up trash, but to provide boast as transportation to islands. The more volunteers who join in, the cleaner the lake will be.
