Now there is an even better and more important reason to rent an apartment in Mooresville, NC, Your health. Iredell County's three hospitals were all labeled top performers last week by the leading accreditator of health care organizations in America.
The Joint Commission named Iredell Health System, Davis Regional Medical Center and Lake Norman Regional Medical Center as three of the nation's "Top Performers on Key Quality Measures."
The recognition means each hospital fell in the top 18% of Joint Commission-accredited hospitals that reported performance data for 2011.
Iredell Health System, which operates Iredell Memorial Hospital, was recognized for its performance in four different areas: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.
This is the second year in a row that Davis Regional and Lake Norman Regional earned the recognition. Lake Norman Regional earned top performer status in heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Davis Regional was recognized as a top performer in pneumonia.
Each of the hospitals that were named as top performers met two 95% performance thresholds on 2011 accountability measure data. A 95% score means a hospital provided an evidence-based practice 95 times out of 100 opportunities to provide the practice. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice -- for example, giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients, giving antibiotics one hour before surgery, and providing a home management plan for children with asthma.
"When we raise the bar and provide the proper guidance and tools, hospitals have responded with excellent results," said Mark R. Chassin, president of The Joint Commission. "This capacity for continual improvement points toward a future in which quality and safety defects are dramatically reduced and high reliability is sought and achieved with regularity."
