Perfectly Boil, Dye and Decorate Easter Eggs – Mooresville, NC

Joseph Coupal - Wednesday, April 16, 2014

It doesn’t matter if you celebrate Easter or not. If you live in our apartments in Mooresville, NC you will probably enjoy an egg hunt! For that you need to have fun coloring Easter eggs. Here are some tips and advice for the best colored eggs:

1. Buying supplies: You'll need to buy a dozen large eggs or however many you need for the hunt, vinegar and a coloring or dye kit.

2. Clean up: Make sure you wash your hands and clean the surface you'll be using. Washing up will also remove any oils from your hands that may interfere with the dye transferring to the egg shell. Also, don’t wear anything you mind getting dye on.

3. Boil the eggs: Put the eggs in a single layer in a saucepan, covered by at least an inch or two of cold water. Starting with cold water and gently bringing the eggs to a boil will help keep them from cracking. Boil for 7-10 minutes. You can also poke a hole in the egg to blow out the contents.

4. Dye the eggs: Mix 7-8 drops of food coloring into 1 cup of hot water. Stir in 1/4 cup vinegar. For more intense colors, use small amounts of professional-quality food coloring gels or pastes, available at craft, cake decorating and kitchen supply stores. Use a spoon or wire egg dipper to ease the cooled eggs into the dye bath.

5. Refrigerate: Hard-cooked eggs should be used within one week.
