The nip of fall is in the air. If you live in an apartment in Mooresville, there is plenty to do in the area for those inclined to spend time outside in the cooling temperatures, from the Carolina Renaissance Festival to Hough High homecoming football to a Haunting Hayride in Huntersville. And for those who prefer to stay out of the weather, there’s plenty to do as well.
FRIDAY, OCT. 14
Family Bingo Night, 6 p.m., Davidson Elementary School – The school’s PTO will hold its annual Family Bingo Night, with bingo and bingo prizes and raffle prizes donated by local restaurants and vendors. Bingo registration at 6 p.m., dinner from 6:25-7 p.m., bingo from 6:45-8 p.m.
Hough High football vs. Mooresville, 7 p.m., Hough High School stadium, Bailey Road, Cornelius – Hough football hosts Mooresville. Read Chris Hunt’s preview in Sports, “Homecoming: Huskies have a score to settle with Mooresville”.
SATURDAY, OCT. 15
Davidson Farmer’s Market, 8 a.m.-12 p.m., The Davidson Farmer’s Market is a producer-only, year-round market featuring more than 35 farmers and local producers from within a 100-mile radius. The market is a lively gathering place for meeting friends and for learning about food, agriculture and nutrition.
Harvest Craft Festival, 8 a.m.-2 p.m., A garage sale, farmers’ market, craft specialists, free food, a bake sale, music and a raffle for a 51-inch flat-screen TV are all on tap during the North Mecklenburg Senior Center’s Harvest Fair. The Lions Club Vision Van will be stationed at the fair to provide visual screening tests, and Sheila Alexander, massage therapist from the Pines at Davidson, will give 15-minute chair massages for $10, which will be donated to the senior center.
Amazing Maize Maze, Rural Hill farm– The Amazing Maize Maze is an outdoor challenge in a 7-acre cornfield. Find your way out by following clues and assembling pieces of a map puzzle. Open Fridays to Sundays through Nov. 13. Friday night flashlight mazes Sept. 30 to Nov. 4
Carolina Renaissance Festival, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Carolina Renaissance Festival grounds– 18th Annual Carolina Renaissance Festival, with food; crafts; music, juggling and other circus entertainments; jousting demonstrations; fun rides and games of skill.
The Haunting Hayride, Latta Equestrian Center at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve, - a Halloween-themed ride through the Equestrian Center’s wooded trails. With a kid-friendly area including a straw maze, pony rides, cow train and bonfire marshmallow roasting. Proceeds benefit Kids Rein, which promotes the use of horses for individuals with physical, emotional and learning disabilities.
Love Letters, Armour Street Theater,– Davidson Community Players presents Love Letters. A character study based on the lifetime exchange of letters of two people who grow from friends into lovers.
